Wedding Registry Alternatives

For some couples the idea of heading to the nearest big box retailers to spend an entire weekend scanning everything from hand towels to coffee spoons is more of a nightmare than a dream.  For those couples we have 6 wedding registry alternatives that can be set up entirely from the comfort of your own home.

1.  Deposit a gift.  This is a cash registry service that allows couples to create a gift list for monetary contributions. Couples can list any type of gift they want, from a fund to save up for a new car to those Egyptian cotton sheets, and guests can make contributions to those items on the list.

2.  Gift Registry 360.  This website from our friends at The Knot allows couples to add products from multiple retailers onto one simple registry list.  Couples can choose to add items to their registry by category or retailer, or choose the Gift Registry 360 bookmarklet tool.  Guests can visit the couple’s list then click through the retailers site to make a purchase.

3.  Honeyfund.  With Honeyfund couples can select honeymoon-related gifts such as horseback ride on the beach, snorkeling, romantic dinner for 2, even airfare for guests to purchase.  Then guests can print a certificate showing which gift they purchased and bring it to the wedding. Couples can also view gifts they’ve received and keep track of thank-you notes on the website.

4.  I Do Foundation.  This website allows you to create a registry for direct donations to your charity of choice or an “I Do” gift registry which is partnered up with your favorite departments stores to donate up to 6 percent of the spending on your gift registry to go to your selected charity.

5.  Merci Registry.  One of the most eye-appealing online alternatives, Merci allows couples to register for items anywhere on the web – from Etsy, to Lowes, to your local landscaper.  Couples can also ask for donations for big purchases (such as plane tickets or a first home), and organize their thank-you notes after the wedding.

6.  Upon Our Star.  This site allows couples to register for various “wishes” online.  Couples can ask for gifts as diverse as activities for their honeymoon, a trip to Fiji, even a college education fund for their future children.  Guests donate cash and the couple receives a cash payment to go towards their wishes.
