Bargain Bling

Diamonds are a girls best friend, no argument there, but nothing could possibly make a woman feel better than a sale/bargain combined with a diamond. Diamond and sale – our two favorite words in just one sentence – it’s exciting just to think about! However, be careful when using these words together, sale is MUCH different than the word cheap (listen up all you men out there looking for tips and tricks). The goal we all have in mind is one wedding, one spouse, and one ring to symbolize that unity. So, don’t be cheap and don’t settle for something you aren’t happy with, because it costs more to upgrade or buy a new ring down the road than just being happy with the initial ring. So how do we save but not skimp?

Acknowledge that you are not an expert and go talk to one. Learn the pricing structure of rings and begin to shop around and compare the price tags on your rings of choice. You do not have to go to the most expensive and well known jeweler in town because we aren’t looking for a brand we are looking for bling. Also, do not expect to haggle or bargain with the fancy schmancy jeweler, but you can talk your way into a deal at a more modest jewelry store. Look in antique stores, shop for loose diamonds, these are all ways to potentially snag a great deal and design a custom ring. Don’t shy away from online stores, but do your research and make sure that it’s a reputable retailer and not a scam artist. Finally, are you planning a trip out of the country anytime soon? In the rare chance that you may be escaping to a foreign diamond producing country, definitely get your shopping done there – they have much more affordable rates in comparison to the U.S.

There are some quick ways to narrow down your search and one way is to remember that the more it weighs, the more it costs. This goes for diamonds as well as the metal. Diamond clusters, which definitely have the sparkle factor, will cost less than a solid diamond. Also, buying right below the next carat weight will save you a fortune. Go for .9 instead of 1 carat and so on and so on. Also, when looking at the metal options for the band, platinum is not necessary and is going to cost you a fortune. Go for white gold, but make sure you aren’t skimping on quality because you want the ring to be durable – so stick with a higher karat weight. In the same sense, if you already have your engagement ring, you are going to want to stick with the same or similar metal because you don’t want the stronger metal to damage the weaker metal since they will be rubbing together. Diamonds aren’t the only option either, women are definitely enjoying their gemstone engagement rings, and more environmental friendly couples are leaning towards lab created diamonds.

Think practically, shop wisely, and get insured! Ladies, I know we love our bling and we quickly jump to the bigger the better, but this isn’t always the case. Quality is imperative and once you have that engagement ring, do not try to out shine your engagement ring, you want them to compliment each other. The thicker the band, the thinner the wallet. Remember these hints, do your research, and don’t be afraid to try and get a bargain on that bling!

Happy Shopping for Bargain Bling!!

Dangling Décor

Everyone has seen reception venues that are decked out with draping and we all know that this can completely change the look of the venue. There are several things that need to go into consideration when considering draping as your event design, but there is one problem that is a little bit bigger. Cost.  Draping is extremely time consuming, is very labor intensive, and most importantly it is extremely expensive.  We are here to help give you some ideas to change the overall ambiance while staying within your budget.

Sweet Style

It is no secret that the traditional wedding cake is slowly starting to sizzle away and become a tradition of the past. We are beginning to see this for many reasons and it is definitely becoming more popular to have a small cake to cut for tradition and have alternative sweets for your guests. Although wedding cakes can be absolutely stunning, it is often a pretty pricey centerpiece. Modern brides are choosing colorful candy displays, locally represented desserts, cupcakes, and the list of sweet possibilities is endless. Here are a couple of tips to begin your candy creation…

Marie + Charlie Featured On The Wedding Row

We are SO excited to share a May wedding of ours that was just featured on The Wedding Row.  We had a blast working with this fabulous couple and helping them bring their (Maria’s) wedding ideas to life.  Can you believe she had never been to a wedding before?  The ceremony took place at the Legare Waring Home under the Alley of Oaks with the reception following at Founders Hall.  She just couldn’t decide between the two venues – so chose both!

Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmm

There are beautiful displays at a wedding and then there are some not so beautiful displays at a wedding. Some of the displays that aren’t so stunning – are the one’s that may come out of the mouth of the bride or maybe be the result of trying to save money without considering the potential consequences. We are here to help you veer away from those common mistakes and let you in on some things that your guests may want you to know.

Wedding Myths

This week bring you our Top Wedding Myths of all time – enjoy!

Guests should spend on the wedding gift the same amount as the per-person cost of the reception

Guests should spend according to their personal relationship with the bride and/or groom and their financial situation. The closer you are the more you may wish to spend; (hopefully) the couple is inviting you because they want to spend this special day with you, not because they want a present from you.

Guests want party favors to take home from the reception

Don’t waste money on candles, bottle stoppers, picture frames, or other knick knacks that turn into clutter.  The best favors are edible ones like locally made chocolates, useful ones like seedlings or herbs to plant, or meaningful ones like making a donation to a charity in lieu of party favors.

You can ask for money as a gift

Although some couples come up with creative ways to ask for money, the truth of the matter is that it is rude and implies that the guest is required to give a gift.  The couple can’t ask for cash, but there are ways to increase your chances at getting money instead of presents.  People will ask your bridal party and close friends and family for your registry information and the easiest thing to do is have them say “They’re registered at ABC but I also know that  they are saving for a down payment on a house/honeymoon/bathroom renovation.”

The number of bridesmaids must equal the number of groomsmen

Why? Who is counting? The only pro for this wedding myth is that wedding photos will look a little more even.  Equal amounts is not mandatory, this is your wedding day, choose whoever you want to be a part of your wedding, all men, all ladies, even all children if that is what you decide.

Wing It OR Get A Wedding Planner?

You may be thinking we are a little biased in regards to this topic, but the truth is, some people can do it on their own and need very little assistance and some people think they can do it on their own and save money but they very quickly learn that the amount of stress, research, and hard work needed to plan a beautiful wedding on a budget is not as easy as they once thought it was. It comes down to one question that should be easy to answer…
