Let Them Eat Cake!

 Bring Back Big Cakes!

Something happened and we lost the tradition of wedding cakes. We have moved on to dessert bars, doughnut towers, cupcakes, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a fun dessert bar and think those can be so beautiful. However, today I want to focus on cakes. Wedding cakes used to be your centerpiece – they were the focal point at the reception. What happened – why did we lose that? We die over a beautiful cake and absolutely adore unique cakes that represent the couple.

Cheers To Seven Years As Charleston Wedding Planners!

The Top Seven Things We Have Learned In The Past Seven Years

Seven years later and we couldn’t be happier to still be able to do our dream job and work with the best people in Charleston! It’s hard to put into words everything we have learned over the years, because we are still learning every day and we are still striving to be the best planners we can be. Every day is a new experience and every client is new and unique in their own way. These are all things that make our job challenging but also keeps us on our toes and challenge us, which we love. We don’t want to do the same event for everyone – we want your event to be unique and to represent YOU!

Including Your Fur Babies On Your Wedding Day – Our Tips & Link To Our Feature In Wedding Lovely

Some of our Furry Clients, Tips & Tricks, & A National Dog Day Feature

Yes, yes, yes! We LOVE when our couples include their beloved fur babies in their wedding day! How could you not include them? They are such a big part of your lives, so we absolutely want them to be a part of the day their humans officially unite.

Is your dog maybe not the most obedient? No problem, just bring them for a “first look” so you can snag some pictures and then send them home with a trusted sitter.

Do you have the perfect puppy? Some venues are totally fine with your dog being at the entire event, so just make sure you clear it with your venue if you prefer they stay and be a part of the whole day. Also, remember your surroundings. County parks in the lowcountry have lots of wild animals, so having your best friend off a leash and wandering around, may not be the safest thing to do!

A BIG thanks to Wedding Lovely for featuring some of our tips in their blog on National Dog Day – you seriously won’t want to miss these squeezable pups – so check it out here!

Check out these adorable photos and ideas from our couples including their pets on their big day…

Not Interested In Wearing A Veil? Have You Considered Flower Crowns or Head Pieces?

Flower Crowns & Head Pieces

Maybe a veil isn’t your thing – we totally get it! A fresh flower, flower crowns, jewels, head pieces or a stunning headband can be used as a fabulous accent piece or accessory! We love it when girls want to be a little edgy or steer away from a more traditional look. That definitely doesn’t take away from the beauty of being a bride and I have fallen in love with how some of our brides have accessorized. Be you and wear whatever makes you feel beautiful, and most importantly, whatever makes you feel like a bride!

What Kind Of Transportation Should I Get For The Exit?

Picking The Perfect Sendoff

This is another super popular question and something we always remind our couples to save some room for in the budget! No matter what – you need a ride home! It’s rare that we see a couple want to drive themselves, so make sure you put some thought into this. We have couples that prefer to save some money and get an Uber or a Cab – that is perfectly fine – just make sure you have a plan in place. You certainly don’t want to be in charge of calling or setting up your ride home. Others want something a bit more fun….

Here are some FABULOUS rides that are couples have taken home:

Carriage Ride

There is nothing more sweet and southern than a carriage ride! Of course these carriages are a bit limited to where they can travel, but Charleston has several carriage services and some specific to weddings. This definitely adds some romance to your day and gives you two some time to be alone. If you are considering using a carriage, we recommend that you use one following the ceremony when it is still light out and take advantage of the carriage bringing  you to different locations for photos. There are some instances where you can use carriages for your reception exit as well, but the location of your reception and your final destination will make a difference in whether or not this is possible.

What is the Best Way to Exit Your Wedding?

Special Exits For Special Couples

We get this question ALL the time! First thing you want to do is check your venue contract. Several venues have very specific rules about the types of exits that are allowed, so before heading to Pinterest and spending your valuable time coming up with an exit, you will want to see what is permissible at your specific venue. We see a lot of couples put a lot of time and energy into these exits, which is super fun, but don’t feel obligated to do it – it’s your wedding – spend your time and money anyway you want!

We always recommend checking in with your photographer and following their recommendations, because they will of course be the ones to capture it. They can always give some great insight into what has worked the best for them and if they aren’t going to be there for the exit, it may not make sense to do an evening exit. In this case, we generally recommend to plan a fun exit following your ceremony, so they are there to capture that. Exits are very difficult to capture because there is typically no light, so you will definitely want to make sure if you have something super fun planned – you will want a professional photographer there to capture it for you and let them know in advance what you have planned.

Check out our fabulous couples and what they have done for their exits:

The Sparkler Exit

First up is the sparkler exit. This is by far the most popular, but also one of the most common exits not allowed at venues, so be sure to check your contract before you purchase anything! I would say this is probably a photographers favorite as well because it provides light and creates a beautiful picture. It’s probably a planners least favorite – depending on how much your guests drink! haha. We have certainly been burned before, and we have seen guests almost burn couples as well – so you may want to keep that in mind if your guests like to party!

Lindsey + Kenan, Boone Hall Plantation, Featured on The Wedding Row

We are so excited to share one of our all time favorite couples and we can’t wait to show you how they brought their fabulous LA style to Charleston.

I will go ahead and let our bride, Lindsey, share the details of her wedding day since she did it best!

“Kenan and I went for an old Hollywood 1920s/30s glam meets rustic southern charm theme for the wedding. We had to bring in the old Hollywood glam ourselves but the rustic southern charm was already there at Boone Hall Plantation. As you entered the Cotton Dock rich burgundy and gold damask draped framed the barn doors. Inside, crystal chandeliers and deep hues of navy and burgundy with a touch of gold really brought our theme to life. We kept the theme going with each table being named after a famous icon of the 1920s and 1930s era. Alternating centerpieces of wine and whiskey bottles (a nod to prohibition) with tapered candles and lush florals with cotton and succulents kept with the theme as well. Our signature drinks that we offered were a Blackberry Gin Fizz titled “Keeping up with the Jones’ ” and an sweet tea vodka with lemonade called a “Sweet Southern Palmer.” We also chose to have Pie instead of a traditional wedding cake. Being that we both aren’t fans of cake we went for pecan, mud and apple pie. It was only by coincidence that it happened to be National Pie Day as well! We kicked off the champagne toasts with a champagne tower and danced the night away to music from each decade. Being music lovers we wanted a variety. We ended the night with a sparkler send off and hopped into a gorgeous white vintage Bentley. Everything exceeded our expectations! Especially our wedding planners Kate and Sabine at Fabulous Fete.  Without them we couldn’t have done it!”

Thanks again for letting us be a part of your day – we adore you both and wish you a life time of love and happiness! Also, a big thanks to the amazing vendors that we worked with, including Studio Mynt, who couldn’t have done a better job capturing such an amazing day! Don’t forget to check out their entire wedding gallery as well as the feature on The Wedding Row!
